WHAT WORKING HERE ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE

Working at Catch the Wave is hands-on, upbeat, and purpose-driven. You’re surrounded by kids who genuinely look forward to seeing you each week — and teammates who take pride in helping swimmers grow.

Here’s what a typical shift feels like:

This isn’t a punch-the-clock job. It’s active, rewarding work — the kind that leaves you tired in a good way.

What We Expect From You

Parents trust us with their children. That responsibility matters. We keep the environment fun — but we expect professionalism, consistency, and maturity.

Reliability & Consistency

Kids thrive on routine. When you commit to a shift, we expect you to honor it.

Professionalism & Emotional Maturity

Whatever happened before work stays at the door. On deck, you’re calm, steady, and positive.

Patience (Non-Negotiable)

Kids learn at different paces. Patience — especially with nervous swimmers — is essential.

High, Positive Energy

Your attitude sets the tone. Kids feel it immediately.

A Genuine Desire to Make a Difference

This work saves lives. We hire people who take that seriously.

Commitment to the Role

Training and certifications are required. We hire carefully because families trust us.

COMMON JOB FRUSTRATIONS (AND HOW WE FIX THEM)

Here are some of the most common reasons people leave other jobs — and how we intentionally do things differently:

Common Job Frustration How Catch the Wave Solves It
1. Low Pay Many jobs expect high effort for low wages or unreliable raises. Competitive, consistent pay. Structured raises, performance bonuses, and pay that's significantly higher than typical service-industry jobs.
2. No Real Growth Workers often hit a ceiling with no clear, fair path forward. Clear growth paths with measurable benchmarks. No time limits. No vague requirements. Progress is based on skill — not seniority.
3. Toxic Coworkers & Drama Negative environments and gossip ruin most jobs. Drama-free, kid-centered culture. You teach your swimmers — not deal with coworker chaos. We hire patient, positive adults because rudeness isn't tolerated around kids.
4. Chaotic or Unpredictable Scheduling Many jobs constantly change hours or expect last-minute availability. Flexible but consistent scheduling. You choose your shifts, and once set, they remain consistent every week — predictable for you, stable for your swimmers.
5. Feeling Like Work Doesn't Matter Many jobs feel like "clock in, clock out" with no real purpose. Purpose-driven work. Every lesson teaches survival skills, builds confidence, and makes a child safer for life. You see the impact immediately.

Ready to Join the Team?

We hire year-round for the right people. If you’re reliable, patient, and excited to help kids grow, we’d love to hear from you.

frequently asked questions

No. We hire for personality, reliability, and character first. If you’re patient, positive, and enjoy working with kids, we provide paid training that teaches you everything you need to coach confidently and safely.

It’s hands-on, upbeat, and purpose-driven. You work in a structured, kid-centered environment where chaos is minimized, teamwork is strong, and your impact is visible every shift. This is work that genuinely matters.

We offer competitive, consistent pay with clear paths for advancement. Growth is based on skill, reliability, and leadership not seniority or favoritism. As you develop, your role and compensation grow with you.

Yes and predictably so. You choose your availability, and once your schedule is set, it stays consistent week to week. This makes Catch the Wave a great fit for students, parents, and those balancing another job.

All coaches receive paid, hands-on training before leading classes. Training includes first aid, CPR, and AED education, along with our BraveCoach™ development program focused on child development, communication, and emotionally intelligent coaching.

Reliability, professionalism, and positive energy. Families trust us with their children, so consistency and care are non-negotiable. We look for people who show up prepared, support their teammates, and take pride in doing meaningful work well.

Minimum hiring age depends on the role and local labor laws. Some positions may be available for younger applicants, while coaching roles often require additional maturity, training completion, and safety readiness. Your location can confirm which roles are currently open and their minimum age requirements.

Water Safety Challenges

To reinforce BraveSwim™ survival skills, we offer optional, age-appropriate Water Safety Challenges at no additional cost:

During these challenges, swimmers practice applying their survival skills fully clothed — entering the water and demonstrating age-appropriate safety responses in more realistic conditions.

Water Safety Challenges are offered on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Please check with your local Catch the Wave office for upcoming dates and availability.
